New release dates
So…
Disney has changed the release date for the princess and her beloved frog. Instead of December 25, 2009, the movie will be released in New York City theaters on November 25 of this year, and on December 11 in all other US cities. According to Louisiana’s Times-Picayune, the new dates help “‘The Princess and the Frog’ avoid head-to-head competition in an animation-rich holiday season that includes “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” (Dec. 25) and James Cameron’s 3-D “Avatar” (Dec. 18). “
Whatever works, I suppose…
On another note, I was just watching some of Jon Stewart’s roast of the host of CNBC’s Mad Money. First, I was quite surprised that people do, in fact, watch CNBC. I guess that would explain how it managed to stay on the air all these years. (Don’t ask me how many years that is — I haven’t a clue.) The “interview” (read: grilling) was interesting to watch. I’ve never been one to get caught up in the stock market even though I’ve had many people tell me investing is the best way to “make your money grow.” Stewart brought up a good point: Americans are workers and thinkers and innovators, that is how we make money and make it grow. I am not saying that investing is a bad idea, because it’s not. But to invest in your own talents and abilities is, in my opinion, much better than putting your money in someone else’s piggy bank to be controlled by the will of some board or group of stockholders.
I am not sure what will happen with many of these big corporations, but I hope that out of the fray that results from this economic downturn, there will emerge a greater appreciation for simplicity, small things. Small businesses, in particular. The purpose of mega stores is to offer more for less. But when you as a consumer lose your integrity, piece of mind, and ability to take care of yourself and your family, you actually end up with less for your money, while the large corporations you patronize end up with more – yours and theirs. So, word to the wise — the best person to control your money is you, and controlling your money includes patronizing businesses wisely. I recommend supporting small businesses, because the more people do that within communities, the more money that stays in those communities to go around.

…and a concluding note: In the midst of all that is going on right now, if you are renting a house, but you’ve always dreamed of buying; if you have a job that you can’t stand and want a new one; if you feel all your money is going to pay bills or feel you have to save more now, because you don’t know if you’ll have any later, be thankful, because you are truly blessed!
Now, on with the show!
